Canterbury Hospital HealthPathways is a clinical and process resource for hospital health care professionals working in the Canterbury health system. It complements Canterbury Community HealthPathways which supports primary care clinicians to plan patient care through primary, community and secondary health care systems within Canterbury.
These pathways, for the care and management of patients within Canterbury DHB hospitals, have been developed jointly by primary and secondary care clinicians.
Hospital HealthPathways is written primarily for resident medical staff, but can be used by other Canterbury DHB medical and nursing staff, and allied health personnel. They are not for access or use by non-registered health professionals or patients.
Hospital HealthPathways includes content from Management Guidelines for Common Medical Conditions otherwise known as The Blue Book. Medicine is an ever-changing science. As new research and clinical experience broaden our knowledge, changes in treatment and drug therapy are required. The clinical editors and the publisher of Hospital and The Blue Book have checked with sources believed to be reliable in their efforts to provide information that is complete and generally in accord with the standards accepted at the time of publication. However, in view of the possibility of human error or changes in medical sciences, neither the editors, nor the publisher, nor any other party who has been involved in the preparation or publication of this work warrants that the information contained herein is in every respect accurate or complete and shall have no liability for any loss or damage arising out of any reliance on this information.
Readers are encouraged to read the product information sheet included in the package of each drug they plan to administer to be certain that the information contained in this book is accurate and that changes have not been made in the recommended dose or in the contraindications for administration. This recommendation is of particular importance in connection with new or infrequently used drugs. Readers should also consult their own laboratories for normal values.
The Hospital HealthPathways and the Blue Book have been compiled by the staff of Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) and as such CDHB has copyright for this book.
As the pathways are suggested guidance only, while using them you must exercise your own clinical judgement and use pertinent clinical data when treating your patient. This includes sourcing additional prescribing information as Hospital HealthPathways only includes some treatment recommendations and advice on selected issues.
This site is intended to be flexible and frequently updated. While every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, all information should be verified.
